University of Louisiana-Lafayette Rajun’ Cajuns (1) VS. Texas A&M University Aggies (10)

In the second game of the Aggies season and Home series’, the Cajuns were again put to the test at Arctic Wolf Ice.

In a similar start to Friday evening’s game and with just over five minutes elapsing, Michael Molge forces the play deep into Cajun territory. A strong, low shot allows Nick Xenakis to re-direct for a score.

At 9:34, the Aggies capitalize on a power play possession. Xenakis works the puck low in the Cajun zone, pulls a defender and creates an open John Rortvedt at the point. Rordvedt slides a pass to Justin Cooley and a one-timer between the legs produces another score.

Five minutes later, Phillip Lowery takes a point shot that is deflected into the ULL net. To finish the scoring, Ben Lang creates a 2-0 situation, and by using his teammate for a distraction, scores low to the glove side.

The Aggies start the second period with a 4-0 lead and add another score at 28 seconds. A controlled passing situation with Jeff Diltz and Justin Cooley allow Eric Engelking and open net tally. Less than one minute later, the Aggies continue the pressure as Mark Moreno forces a Cajun territory turnover. A quick pass allows Julien Legrand a low shot to elude the goaltender.

The Ragin Cajuns stemmed the tide for over ten minutes and produced their own scoring chances. The Aggies held, and re-entered the scoring column with 8:33 remaining as Brian Young feeds Dustin Roark for a one-timer goal.

At 6:11, Diltz again establishes possession deep in the Cajun zone. A quick pass and a quick shot from Engelking produces an open net rebound score for Cooley. At this point, the Aggies take an 8-0 into the ice cut.

A&M begins the third period scoring with 15:41 remaining. Brian Young feeds Justin Cooley with a pass, and Cooley beats his defender and the goalie with another accurate wrist shot.

At the mid-point of the third period, the Cajuns spoil the Aggie shut out.

With 4:00 minutes remaining in the contest, the Aggies finish the scoring. Brian Young advances the puck end to end and finishes with a clean wrist shot to split the defender’s legs.

Final Score: Aggies 10, Ragin Cajuns 1
