Texas A&M University Aggies (11) VS. University of North Texas Green Machine (1)
After a short night, both teams were back in the rink for the re-match – UNT looking to avenge their tough loss and the Aggies pushing to continue their momentum.
The initial stages to the game were very similar to Saturday’s game as A&M opens the scoring at 18:10. Aubrey Berkowitz works to retain puck possession down low in the UNT zone. A forced pass to defenseman Brian Young and an accurate point shot creates the re-bound and a score for Berkowitz.
On a power play at 12:45, the Aggies win the face off in Green Machine territory. The puck is cycled from Jeff Diltz to Eric Engelking behind the net and a quick pass and shot by Berkowitz puts the Aggies at 2-0.
A 5-on-3 UNT power play scores with 8:17 remaining to finish the first period at 2-1.
The Aggies open the period scoring at 19:35 on a power play. With control from the opening face-off, Eric Engelking scores on a deflected passing play from the corner.
In a short-handed situation with 13:11 remaining, Dustin Roark hits pay dirt when a clearing shot from center ice takes a weird bounce to elude the UNT goalie; 4-1.
Two minutes later, a flowing breakout produces a 3 on 1 for the Aggies. Roark starts from the Aggie blue line to a breaking Nick Xenakis. Some speed to beat the defender and a look to spot an open Diltz; 5-1.
The Aggies finish the period’s scoring with 2:13 remaining and on a power play. John Rortvedt receives a rebound to the point, skates to the goalie and snipes his shot, top right corner.
Aggies again score first to start the period. In a power play 5-3 situation, the puck is cycled around the perimeter from Rortvedt to Mark Moreno. Justin Cooley buries the pass across the slot; 7-1.
Two minutes later, the Aggies capitalize on another 5-3 situation. Engelking controls the puck deep in the Green Machine zone and feeds an across slot to a waiting Mark Oberstoetter; 8-1.
One minute later, a secured face off deep in UNT produces another Aggie score. In a 4 on 4 situation, defenseman Rortvedt feeds partner Young for a quick shot and score.
At 14:08, Engelking moves the puck up ice and takes a shot on the Green Machine goalie. Nathan Banks deflects the puck; 10-1.
On a 5-on-3 with less than 1 minute remaining, Justin Coolie tallies the Aggies final goal; 11-1.

Despite the score, the University of North Texas continued to battle and finished the contest admirably and we wish them success in their 2008-2009 contests. Both teams are inevitably awaiting the re-match in College Station.
