Texas A&M University Aggies (5) vs. Southern Methodist University Mustangs (2)

The Aggies traveled to Dallas to start their four-game series against SMU. In a rink packed with rambunctious and vocal fans, both teams played an intense, physical game.

The Aggies started the scoring in the first period when Michael Zahner picked up a pass from Dominic Marino and shot it at 14:20, 1-0.

Five minutes later, Justin Cooley received a pass from Julien Legrand on the point and fired it home on a one timer. At 19:20 in the first period, the score became 2-0, Aggies.

The Mustangs picked up the pace in the second period and scored a goal at 12:00, 2-1.

The Aggies were determined to take a bigger lead, and they did: Michael Zahner made a pass to Brian Young, who sent it to Tom Callaghan. A slapshot at 6:14 resulted in a score of 3-1.

SMU continued to fight and scored another goal at 4:40, and the second period ended 3-2 Aggies.

The first half of the third period went by uneventfully. At 10:23, Nick Xenakis accepted a pass from Brian Young and buried it to again put the Aggies two goals ahead, 4-2.

Xenakis wasn't finished: two minutes later, at 8:15, he sent another one home with an assist from Justin Cooley. The game ended with a score of 5-2, Aggies.
