Texas A&M University Aggies (1) vs. Colorado Buffaloes (9)
As the Aggies acclimated to their new geography, they were anxious to contest the #1 ranked team in the region and our Host Team. As our scoring drought continued to frustrate, the Buffaloes trounced our worst defensive effort of the season.
The Buffs scored 8 unanswered goals as the Aggies seemed flat from the out-set. Colorado scored early at 18:59 and again at 14:44 to finish the first period at 2-0.
The Buffs continued the second period scoring early at 17:14, 16:32, 11:17, 10:31 and 3:39 to finish the period. The Aggies created some offensive opportunities but seemed dis-engaged against their opponent and finished the period shut out at 7-0.
Colorado continued the scoring at 18:07. But the Aggies never quit. With 7:24 remaining, Matt Moreno slipped a pass to line mate Eric Engelking crossing the blue line into the Buffalo zone. At the top of the circle, a quick, accurate wrist shot put the Aggies on the board at 8-1.
The Buffaloes answered with 11 seconds remaining to finish the evening at 9-1.
Both teams battled with respect and honor to the game and their competitors, and again we look for a re-match.
